BARI COSTA SUD – L’abecedario della Terra
A cavallo fra l’ottobre e il novembre 2024, si è concluso, con delle giornate molto intense, il laboratorio d’arte e serigrafia realizzato da Ottoeffe, assieme a una dozzina di giovani NEET baresi.

All’interno della grande trasformazione in corso nell’area sud della città, l’orto urbano Ortogentile preserva la cultura contadina e rappresenta la biodiversità nel pieno tessuto urbano. Eppure, nel progetto pubblico, la sua area è stata inserita fra le aree da espropriare, e dopo la contestazione è in corso di rivalutazione da parte degli enti preposti.
Esplorando questo luogo, ci siamo chiesti: che significato ha per noi la parola #TERRA? Da qui è stato avviato un ragionamento collettivo con mezzi non convenzionali su territorio, memoria e partecipazione. L’abecedario è frutto di un bellissimo percorso che ha accolto emozioni, lingue, nuove amicizie, pratiche e colori: dalla A di Animali, alla C di Cura, alla F di fertilità, tradotte in tutte le lingue dei partecipanti al laboratorio.

Raccogliendo le impronte degli elementi naturali di Ortogentile, siamo giunti al significato di ogni parola, dalle esperienze, radicate nella terra, alla pratica artistica, condivisa con Otto Effe in forma editoriale e di stampa calcografica. Terra e cenere, applicati in serigrafia su una sua grafica, hanno ultimato il lavoro collettivo che abbellisce la parete d’ingresso della sede di Pigment Workroom a Bari.

Il lavoro di raccolta della storia e delle trame di Ortogentile è avvenuto principalmente con la tecnica del frottage, con il quale Ottoeffe ha ricreato un libro abecedario in copia unica donato a Ortocircuito.
Inoltre, riportando in calcografia arbusti, muri e altri elementi grazie a fogli di gomma e mattarelli, i e le partecipanti hanno potuto in seguito realizzare delle stampe a due livelli. Il primo in calcografia colorata liberamente dai e dalle NEET con i diversi pattern naturali. Il secondo livello, invece disegnato direttamente dall’artista e inciso in serigrafia, è stato stampato con la colla per poi essere ricoperto della terra stessa dell’orto.

Raccogliendo le impronte degli elementi naturali di Ortogentile, siamo giunti al significato di ogni parola, dalle esperienze, radicate nella terra, alla pratica artistica, condivisa con Otto Effe in forma editoriale e di stampa calcografica.

BARI SOUTH COAST – The ABCs of the Earth
Between October and November 2024, Ottoeffe’s art and screen printing workshop, involving a dozen young NEETs from Bari, came to an end after a series of very intense days.

Amidst the major transformation underway in the southern part of the city, the Ortogentile urban garden preserves rural culture and represents biodiversity in the heart of the urban fabric. However, in the public project, its area has been included among those to be expropriated, and after protests, it is currently being reevaluated by the relevant authorities.
Exploring this place, we asked ourselves: what does the word #TERRA (earth) mean to us? This led to a collective discussion using unconventional means about territory, memory, and participation. The alphabet book is the result of a wonderful journey that embraced emotions, languages, new friendships, practices, and colors: from A for Animals to C for Care to F for Fertility, translated into all the languages of the workshop participants.

By collecting the imprints of the natural elements of Ortogentile, we arrived at the meaning of each word, from experiences rooted in the earth to artistic practice, shared with Otto Effe in editorial and intaglio print form. Earth and ash, applied in silkscreen printing on one of his graphics, completed the collective work that adorns the entrance wall of the Pigment Workroom headquarters in Bari.

The work of collecting Ortogentile’s history and stories was mainly carried out using the frottage technique, with which Ottoeffe recreated a unique alphabet book donated to Ortocircuito.
In addition, by reproducing shrubs, walls, and other elements in intaglio using rubber sheets and rolling pins, the participants were then able to create two-level prints. The first was a color intaglio print freely colored by the NEETs with different natural patterns. The second level, on the other hand, was designed directly by the artist and engraved in silkscreen, then printed with glue and covered with soil from the garden itself.
