L’Istituto di Istruzione secondaria di secondo grado Rosa Luxemburg per l’Enogastronomia e l’Ospitalità Alberghiera, con sede a Casamassima (BA), ha richiesto un intervento di muralismo all’interno degli spazi scolastici assieme alle studentesse e studenti.
Mario Nardulli ha guidato un processo di progettazione condivisa, legato alle strette tempistiche di esecuzione, sui temi connessi ai percorsi di studi, ovvero Enogastronomia, Servizi di sala e di vendita e Accoglienza turistica.
L’idea è stata quindi di creare un sistema modulare di stencil da portare in diversi luoghi della scuola, per concentrarli poi nei quattro muri corrispondenti alle due rampe di scale al centro della scuola.
Si è partiti da una mappa concettuale di oggetti ed emozioni legate ai diversi percorsi, per poi iniziare un gioco di illustrazione: divisi in due gruppi, le persone sceglievano una parola della lista e tutte e tutti dovevano illustrarla con un segno grafico stile stencil in soli dieci secondi. Il compito successivo, in forma condivisa, è stato di scegliere soli 12 simboli, per poi assegnarli ai due diversi gruppi che, separatamente, hanno creato una propria palette di colori, da una parte colori caldi, e da una parte colori freddi.
Imparato l’utilizzo dei colori spray, con un breve corso di graffiti-writing, si è passati al ritaglio degli stencil in 3 formati diversi: grandi, medio e piccoli, i primi da riempire a rullo, i secondi a pennello, e i più piccoli a spray.
Nello stesso ordine si è iniziato a lavorare in coppie per la stesura del colore, rendendo del tutto casuale la sovrapposizione di un disegno all’altro, lasciando poi a Mario Nardulli il compito di “pulire” la parete riportando il bianco a uniformare le grafiche al resto della scuola. Al concetto di cura nel preparare e servire un pasto, come a quello di sogno legato al viaggiare, si trova corrispondenza nelle forme e nei colori che dalle 4 pareti centrali si sviluppano nel corridoio centrale che dalle aulee porta nei laboratori di cucina e servizio dell’Istituto.

The Rosa Luxemburg Secondary School for Food and Wine and Hotel Hospitality, based in Casamassima (BA), requested a mural painting project within the school premises together with the students.
Mario Nardulli led a shared design process, linked to tight execution deadlines, on themes related to the courses of study, namely Food and Wine, Dining Room and Sales Services, and Tourist Reception.
The idea was to create a modular system of stencils to be taken to different places in the school and then concentrated on the four walls corresponding to the two staircases in the center of the school.
The process began with a conceptual map of objects and emotions related to the different courses, followed by an illustration game: divided into two groups, the participants chose a word from the list and everyone had to illustrate it with a stencil-style graphic in just ten seconds. The next task, in shared form, was to choose only 12 symbols, which were then assigned to the two different groups, who separately created their own color palettes, one with warm colors and one with cool colors.
After learning how to use spray paints in a short graffiti-writing course, the participants moved on to cutting out stencils in three different sizes: large, medium, and small. The large stencils were filled in with a roller, the medium ones with a brush, and the small ones with spray paint.

In the same order, work began in pairs to apply the color, making the overlapping of one design onto another completely random, then leaving Mario Nardulli with the task of “cleaning” the wall, bringing back the white to match the graphics to the rest of the school. The concept of care in preparing and serving a meal, as well as the dream of traveling, is reflected in the shapes and colors that develop from the four central walls into the central corridor that leads from the classrooms to the Institute’s cooking and service laboratories.
