Il progetto “FRONDE”, attuato tra dicembre 2017 e marzo 2018, ha portato alla realizzazione di tre opere di arte urbana partecipata sui bordi del Parco Gargasole, area che il Comune di Bari ha destinato alla rigenerazione creativa nell’area della Ex-Caserma Rossani.
L’occasione è stata quella di unire diverse Associazioni Culturali nella progettazione condivisa di un luogo abbandonato, impostando il nostro lavoro assieme all’Associazione Spazi Mobili e Fractal Decor Color Design.

Il nostro obiettivo è stato quello di coinvolgere i residenti del quartiere con diverse open-call, individuando come tema quello della natura, e in particolare quello delle fronde degli alberi.
Su un muro con oltre 100 anni di storia, ci è sembrato doveroso conservarne le peculiarità e i diversi livelli di colore esistenti, intonacando le parti scoperte della parete, e colorando quanto invece ha retto nel tempo.

Per entrambe le fasi abbiamo estrapolato forme e pattern da famosi dipinti di grandi artisti dall’800 sino ad oggi, per poi usare materiali ecologicamente sostenibili: da un lato malte e intonaci naturali, dall’altra vernici a base di calce e colori spray.
Il risultato finale è la sovrapposizione di materiali, tecniche, forme, cromie, che rimandano al mondo della botanica e che si integrano in modo organico ed armonico alle preesistenze, siano esse erosioni del muro, graffiti o vegetazione rampicante.

FRONDE project, implemented between December 2017 and March 2018, led to the creation of three works of urban art on the borders of the Gargasole Park, an area that the Municipality of Bari has dedicated to creative regeneration in the area of ​​the Ex-Caserma Rossani .
The occasion was to unite several Cultural Associations in the shared design of an abandoned place, setting up our work together with the Spazi Mobili Association and Fractal Decor Color Design.

Our goal was to involve the residents of the neighborhood with different open-calls, identifying as core-theme nature, and in particular tree fronds.
On a wall with over 100 years of history, we felt necessary to preserve the existing peculiarities and different levels of colors, plastering the uncovered parts of the wall, and coloring all the rest.

For both phases we have extrapolated shapes and patterns from famous paintings by great artists from the 19th century up today, then using ecologically sustainable materials: on one hand natural mortars and plasters, on the other lime-based paints and spray colors.
The final result is the overlapping of materials, techniques, shapes, colors, which refer to the world of botany and which integrate in an organic and harmonious with the erosion of the wall, graffiti or climbing vegetation.

La seconda opera realizzata per il Progetto Fronde, nel Parco Gargasole per il Comune di Bari, è avvenuta grazie alla collaborazione dei bambini delle classi III A e III B della Scuola Primaria “Montello” – I.C. “Massari-Galilei” assieme all’Associazione Spazi Mobili.
In questo caso, intervenendo su una superficie provvisoria, si è deciso di utilizzare una tecnica artistica provvisoria e mutevole per eccellenza: la poster art.

Scopo dell’incontro è stato far conoscere lo spazio ai bambini, per poter poi giungere alla realizzazione di un’opera d’arte pubblica che avesse come oggetto i desiderata dei bambini, le loro idee e proposte per un nascente Parco Gargasole.
L’esplorazione è stata la modalità prescelta per indagare il luogo: attraverso una serie di piccoli giochi ed esercizi – misurare il parco con il corpo, ricomporne i prospetti, catturare con foglietti di carta la pelle delle superfici e dei materiali, soffermarsi sui suoni, ecc. – i bambini sono stati guidati nella conoscenza del parco partendo da una visione d’insieme per giungere alla scoperta del dettaglio, e viceversa.

A seguito dei tre laboratori svolti con i bambini della scuola sopracitata, si sono realizzati dei poster ritagliati seguendo i bordi di foglie di varie dimensioni e tipologia, contenenti un insieme di disegni e collage ideati dai bambini; disegni e collage, in cui era stato chiesto di immaginare prima e rappresentare poi il Parco Gargasole così come lo avrebbero voluto.

Gli elementi ricorrenti, come aree gioco, orti, alberature, spazi in cui ospitare animali, di elementi legati all’acqua, sono stati raccolti nei poster, affissi pubblicamente nell’ultimo incontro insieme agli stessi bambini.

The second work realized for Fronde Project, in the Gargasole Park for the Municipality of Bari, took place thanks to the collaboration with the children of classes III A and III B of the Primary School “Montello” – I.C. “Massari-Galilei” together with the Spazi Mobili Association.
In this case, intervening on a temporary surface, it was decided to use a temporary and changeable artistic technique: the poster art.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce childrens into the space, in order to achieve the creation of a public art work that had as its object the children’s wishes, their ideas and proposals for a nascent Gargasole Park.
Exploration was the method chosen to investigate the place: through a series of small games and exercises – measuring the park with the body, reconstructing the elevations, capturing the skin of the surfaces and materials with sheets of paper, lingering over the sounds, etc. – the children were guided in the knowning of the park starting from an overview and then discovering all details.

After the three workshops carried out with the students, posters have been cut out following the edges of leaves of various sizes and types, containing a set of drawings and collages created by the children; drawings and collages, in which they had been asked to imagine and then represent the Gargasole Park as they would have liked it.

Le prime due fasi del progetto Fronde hanno attratto quanti vivono illegalmente la grande area abbandonata della Ex-Caserma Rossani, di cui il Parco Gargasole fa parte. Alcuni under-18, accusati dai residenti di provocare disturbi e disagi nel quartiere, ci hanno chiesto di insegnargli l’utilizzo degli strumenti dell’arte urbana, e grazie al supporto del Rotary Club Bari, abbiamo dato vita ad un ciclo di incontri fra loro e il Centro Servizi per le Famiglie di Carrassi, San Pasquale, Mungivacca per dar vita ad un nuovo workshop di graffiti-writing e di street-art.
Ancora una volta, dalla teoria siamo passati alla pratica su carta per poi definire una bozza condivisa sul tema di Fronde, la vegetazione, chiedendo agli studenti di curare una loro pianta, iniziando ad immaginarla e disegnarla in un vaso da decorare. Da uno studio delle grafiche greco-romane sino ai dipinti di fiori e vasi dei grandi pittori dell’800 e 900, siamo giunti al bosco che la Famiglia Di Stasi, proprietaria dello stabile a ridosso del Parco, ci ha permesso di realizzare insieme ai ragazzi.

The first two phases of Fronde project have attracted those who illegally frequent the large abandoned area of ​​the former Rossani barracks, where Gargasole Park is located. Some under-18s, accused by residents of bothering and disturbing the neighborhood, asked us to teach them how to use urban art tools, and thanks to the support of the Rotary Club Bari, we have created a series of writing and street-art workshops together with the Service Center for Families of Carrassi, San Pasquale, Mungivacca.
Once again, we passed from theory to paper practice to then define a shared draft on the theme of Fronde, vegetation, asking students to imagine and draw their own plant in a decorated vase. From a study of Greco-Roman graphics to the paintings of flowers and vases of great painters of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, we came to the imaginary wood that the Di Stasi family, owner of the building near the Park, allowed us to realize together with the kids.
