Il Prix Italia, Concorso internazionale organizzato dalla Rai che premia l’eccellenza radio, tv e web, ha realizzato un’opera che avvicina l’arte alla gente per tematiche e modalità.
Sostenibilità, quindi, ma anche partecipazione attiva dei cittadini.
L’Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Meridionale ha messo a disposizione un muro di circa 35×6 metri. Si tratta della prima volta che la RAI unisce arte pubblica ed educazione, ed è anche il primo murales nel porto di Bari. La location è strategica: a pochi passi dal Terminal Crociere, il muro è visibile a tutti i mezzi in transito in entrata ed uscita dal porto, i visitatori appena giunti a Bari hanno così una tela a cielo aperto da guardare durante l’attesa.

Il tema della sostenibilità è estremamente calzante anche considerato il luogo in cui abbiamo lavorato. Il mare sta divenendo anche un tema sociale, oltre che politico, data la crescente attenzione verso l’inquinamento prodotto dall’uomo con la sua visione antropocentrica che guarda le risorse naturali come un sistema indistruttibile e a ciclo continuo. Così non è, e l’entropia del pianeta Terra sta mostrando con gli effetti del climate change a cosa andiamo incontro.
A questo contribuisce anche il turismo, di forte impatto specie in aree come la città vecchia, che sta subendo da anni un processo importante di gentrification. A quanti arrivano nella città di Bari in nave vogliamo dare, oltre che ad un benvenuto, anche un messaggio che li attenzioni alla fragilità dei sistemi urbani e naturali nei quali stanno entrando, ricordando quali sono le buone pratiche e i comportamenti rispettosi da considerare nella Regione che li ospita.

La RAI, con il supporto dell’Assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Bari, ha scelto un collettivo locale, Pigment Workroom, per avere massima aderenza agli obiettivi “orizzontali” preposti, a cui si è affiancato l’artista Mattia Botta – in arte Geometric Bang – artista lombardo ma di adozione barese dopo l’amore nato per la città nel 2014 a seguito di un progetto realizzato con Pigment nei quartieri periferici a nord della città.

Insieme, si è proceduto nella settimana precedente alla realizzazione del murales, ad una serie di incontri con adolescenti di diverse aree cittadine grazie al supporto dell’Assessorato al Welfare del Comune di Bari e la scuola nautica “A vele spiegate”. Geometric Bang ha guidato il gruppo alla decorazione della vela della Bari Social Boat, che potrà poi portare i ragazzi e le ragazze in prossimità del murales alla sua conclusione.

Sustainable Me è un progetto per il Prix Italia 2022 finanziato da RAI, con il supporto dell’assessorato alle culture del Comune di Bari, all’assessorato al welfare del Comune di Bari, all’autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Meridionale e alla scuola nautica “A vele spiegate”.

The Prix Italia, an international competition organized by Rai that rewards radio, TV and web excellence, has produced a work that brings art closer to the people in terms of themes and methods.
Sustainability, then, but also active citizen participation.
The Southern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority provided a wall measuring about 35×6 meters. This is the first time RAI has combined public art and education, and it is also the first mural in the port of Bari. The location is strategic: a short walk from the Cruise Terminal, the wall is visible to all transit vehicles entering and leaving the port, so visitors who have just arrived in Bari have an open-air canvas to look at while waiting.

The theme of sustainability is also extremely fitting given where we have been working. The sea is also becoming a social issue, as well as a political one, given the increasing focus on man-made pollution with its anthropocentric view that looks at natural resources as an indestructible, continuous-cycle system. This is not the case, and the entropy of planet Earth is showing with the effects of climate change what we are up against.
Tourism also contributes to this, with a strong impact especially in areas such as the old city, which has been undergoing a major process of gentrification for years. To those who arrive in the city of Bari by boat we want to give not only a welcome but also a message that attends them to the fragility of the urban and natural systems into which they are entering, reminding them what good practices and respectful behaviors to consider in the Region that hosts them.

The RAI, with the support of the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Bari, chose a local collective, Pigment Workroom, to have maximum adherence to the “horizontal” objectives set, which was joined by artist Mattia Botta – AKA Geometric Bang – an artist from Lombardy but adopted from Bari after a love born for the city in 2014 following a project carried out with Pigment in the northern suburbs of the city.

Together, they held a series of meetings with teenagers from different areas of the city in the week before the mural was created, thanks to the support of the Bari City Council’s Welfare Department and the nautical school “A vele spiegate.” Geometric Bang led the group in decorating the sail of the Bari Social Boat, which can then take the boys and girls in the vicinity of the mural upon its completion.

Sustainable Me is a project for the Prix Italia 2022 funded by RAI, with support from the Bari City Council Department of Cultures, the Bari City Council Department of Welfare, the Southern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority and the nautical school “A vele spiegate.”
