Per i dieci anni di vita Pigment Workroom, il laboratorio di arte urbana partecipata e di stampa artistica artigianale di Bari ha realizzato una grande festa nel quartiere Enziteto di Bari, nell’Accademia del Cinema Ragazzi di San Pio, li dove tutto ebbe inizio nel 2014.
Proprio durante “Enziteto Real Estate”, giocando a pallone sul campo in stato di abbandono della ex scuola media del quartiere, si ipotizzò un progetto che potesse unire sport e arte popolare, murales e serigrafia.

Grazie alla vittoria dell’avviso pubblico Bari Community Hub, PWR è riuscita a lanciare Kick-Off, che per i mesi di ottobre e novembre 2023 ha animato gli spazi della serigrafia sociale “Stampate”.
Assieme agli under-15 del quartiere, abbiamo preparato il terreno per l’arrivo degli artisti, con laboratori di progettazione dell’identità e delle divise di due squadre di basket.
Assieme alle educatrici ed educatori di Pigment, ogni squadra ha scelto i colori sociali, i propri simboli e ha potuto conoscere i capitàni/artisti. I Rayos, gialli come il sole e le stelle, azzurri come il mare, hanno potuto elaborare il logo scudetto insieme a Geometric Bang, e la propria divisa insieme a Ciredz. I Magmas, rossi come il fuoco e verdi come la natura, hanno potuto lavorare con Alfano per lo scudetto e con Tellas per le loro canotte.

I simboli individuati e approvati dai capitàni, stelle e foglie, sono stati trasformati in grandi timbri, subito utilizzati per stampare il tessuto a metraggio delle divise, poi sovrapposto da un livello stampato collettivamente in serigrafia disegnato da Ciredz e Tellas. Coinvolgendo alcune sarte e sarti del quartiere, finalmente è potuto iniziare il laboratorio di taglio e cucito per assemblare le canotte, il tempo di disegnare i numeri e nomi da applicare alle divise, e le due squadre son state pronte per sfidarsi.

A questo punto, l’obiettivo è divenuto colorare il campo stesso di basket! In una progettazione congiunta con Marioiks, le e i partecipanti hanno trasformato i loro timbri in delle scarpe per decorare tutta la pavimentazione, ultimata con i colori delle due squadre, in una settimana di lavoro con tutte le ragazzine e ragazzini.

Dal 15 novembre, con l’arrivo degli artisti a Enziteto, abbiamo dato vita alle ultime opere: Geometric Bang ha realizzato il suo striscione “Vita sociale”, Alfano ha creato le due sagome giganti con le divise delle squadre da portare in parata, e Ciredz ha colorato le 40 bandiere da sventolare durante la partita. Tutte forme di arte pubblica realizzate in una piazza aperta a tutti, e in forma totalmente orizzontale con il quartiere che ha visto un luogo inutilizzato come il campo sportivo, in uno spazio di arte e socialità.

Sabato 18 novembre ha finalmente avuto luogo la grande festa con l’aiuto del Birrificio Sociale “Fuori Orario”, giornata coronata dall’organizzazione della partita fra Magmas e Rayos e dalla presentazione di tutte le opere degli artisti.
Fra bandiere, sciarpe, installazioni e striscioni, la partita è stata narrata in diretta da Radio JP, che ha animato il post partita insieme alla mostra fotografica di tutto il processo di Kick-Off all’interno del birrificio sociale.

A distanza di dieci anni dal primo evento, e con gli stessi artisti coinvolti, l’obiettivo di invertire le rotte centripete della città di Bari è stato realizzato a pieno, lasciando un nuovo simbolo in forma permanente nel quartiere San Pio.

For its 10-year anniversary Pigment Workroom, Bari’s participatory urban art and artisanal printmaking workshop, held a big party in Bari’s Enziteto neighborhood, in the Accademia del Cinema Ragazzi di San Pio, there where it all began in 2014.
Precisely during “Enziteto Real Estate,” playing ball on the abandoned field of the former middle school in the neighborhood, a project was hypothesized that could combine sports and popular art, murals and screen printing.

Thanks to winning the Bari Community Hub public notice, PWR was able to launch Kick-Off, which for the months of October and November 2023 enlivened the spaces of the “Stampate” social screen printing shop.
Together with the neighborhood’s under-15s, we prepared the ground for the artists’ arrival with identity design workshops and uniforms for two basketball teams.
Together with Pigment educators and teachers, each team chose their social colors, their symbols and got to know the captains/artists. The Rayos, yellow like the sun, blue like the sea, were able to work out the shield logo together with Geometric Bang, and their own uniform together with Ciredz. The Magmas, red like fire and green like nature, were able to work with Alfano for the shield logo and with Tellas for their undershirts.

The symbols identified and approved by the captains, stars and leaves, were made into large stamps, which were immediately used to print the metered fabric of the uniforms, then overlaid by a collectively screen printed layer designed by the artists. Involving some neighborhood tailors, the tailoring workshop to assemble the undershirts could finally begin, time to draw the numbers and names to be applied to the uniforms, and the two teams were ready to compete.
At this point, the goal became to color the basketball court itself! In a joint design with Marioiks, the students turned their stamps into shoes to decorate the entire floor, which was completed with the colors of the two teams in a week’s work with all the kids.

Since Nov. 15, with the arrival of the artists in Enziteto, we have brought the last works to life: Geometric Bang made his “Social Life” banner, Alfano created the two giant silhouettes with the uniforms of the teams to be carried in the parade, and Ciredz colored the 40 flags to be waved during the game. All forms of public art made in a square open to all, and in a totally horizontal form with the neighborhood that saw an unused place like the sports field, in a space of art and sociality.

On Saturday, November 18, the big party with the help of the Social Brewery “Fuori Orario” finally took place, a day crowned by the organization of the match between Magmas and Rayos and the presentation of all the artists’ works.
Among flags, scarves, installations and banners, the match was narrated live by Radio JP, which animated the post-match along with a photo exhibition of the entire Kick-Off process inside the social brewery.

Ten years after the first event, and with the same artists involved, the goal of reversing Bari’s centripetal routes has been fully realized, leaving a new symbol in permanent form in the San Pio neighborhood.
